The case includes the following wines:
2x Te Mata Awatea Cabernets/Merlot 2022 - Since 1982, the Awatea has showcased the outstanding qualities of this region, blending the noble varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot in a masterful cuvée.
Erin Larkin, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - December 2023: "This is routinely a superb wine, svelte and supple. The smaller sibling to the magnificent Coleraine, the 2022 Awatea Cabernets / Merlot is composed of 44% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Cabernet Franc. This is approximately 30% new French oak, the same barrel regime as Coleraine prior to selections. I love smelling Cabernet—a great one can make you smile. I’m smiling right now. There’s raspberry pip, nori, dried herbs (thyme, lavender, etc.), white flowers, coal dust, star anise, licorice ... I could go on. The palate is shaped by ductile, ferruginous tannins, which contribute a bloody purity. It’s a sensational wine, grossly underpriced, and it is an absolute pleasure to drink. Do not delay."
2x Te Mata Cape Crest Sauvignon Blanc 2022 - Since 1984, Cape Crest has gained an international following for its unique expression of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Aged in barrels with a touch of Semillon and Sauvignon Gris, it is concentrated and complex, with toasty aromas, pears, and stone fruits. You can confidently "forget" this wine in your cellar for a few years.
Erin Larkin, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "On the nose, in its inchoate youth here, we see layers of lemongrass, tatami mat, white pineapple husk, green apple skins, white pepper, alyssum, and star anise. In the mouth, the wine is balanced and harmonious already - this is crucial for us to understand how it could be such a composed wine in the future."
