Reviews
Cameron Douglas MS: 97/100 (Outstanding - Classic: a great wine). Fantastic bouquet and palate, a complex and layered bouquet with a core of citrus fruits and autolysis, lemon and white peach, oven fresh oatmeal biscuits and brioche, honeysuckle and wet river stone mineral highlights. The mousse is equally rich in texture with a super fine satin textured bubble, a precise acid line carrying flavours of citrus and white fleshed fruits, an exotic richness and saline side contributing to a lengthy and complex finish. One glass is simply not enough. Fabulous drinking from day of purchase through 2030+.
Decanter: 97/100. Tasted by: Emma Jenkins MW
(at Marlborough, 01 Oct 2023) Part of New Zealand sparkling wine – the fizz to follow. Ripe apple, honey and detailed autolytic richness, the palate is finely textured with a delicate, persistent bead, good fruit concentration and a glittery vein of acidity running straight down the line. Excellent carry and length with great balance, this is an impressive wine that raises the bar for New Zealand sparkling wine. Drinking Window: 2023 - 2030.
David Walker Bell, WineFolio: 96/100. A pale straw gold colour with a fine mousse of tiny bubbles carries a bold scent in a wave from the glass. Complex and fine, but with an electric energy. Lemon peel, grapefruit, peach, apricot, mandarin and cherry blossom, with an overlay of bran biscuit and toasted brioche. The palate starts with a richness carried from that voluminous nose, but is quite structured and tight as it goes. Minerality plays a part, with a salinity to the acidity as well, that gives an al dente bite as a contrast to the body and depth. Great drive and length into a mouth-filling finish of superb length.
Tasting Note
An alluring and seductive bouquet with its distinct signature butter brioche autolysis, baked peach and apple with the hint of a spring orchard. The palate is seamless with focused fruit-yeast balance providing elegance and style. The extended lees ageing provides richness with complex biscuity notes. Well-balanced, delicate and fresh with a lengthy finish.
