Loop Road Pinot Noir 2022
Reviews
Aotearoa National Wine Competition 2023: Trophy.
Christina Pickard, Wine Enthusiast: 94/100. A lovely, expressive nose of brambly berries, plum, warm stones and subtle herbs and florals open this instantly appealing wine from one of Otago's top producers. The palate is light on its feet with succulent fruit and a line of fine, savoury tannins that creeps up toward the finish. Elegant, long and still youthful, this could be drunk until around 2030.
Tasting note
Inviting with aromas of Dawson cherry, plum, blueberry and fine notes of thyme. Sweet fruit, spirited acidity and lush flavours rounded up with soft tannins.

Additional information
Type: Red wine
Varietal: 100% Pinot Noir
Food match: Serve with wild duck and pork dishes
Wine region: Bendigo, Central Otago, New Zealand.Vineyard: This wine is from the Quartz Reef's estate vineyard located in the Bendigo sub-region of Central Otago. The vineyard was planted in 1998 after careful site selection. The soils on the beautiful north facing slope are Waenga fine sandy loam and Letts steepland soil with an elevation of 217 - 264 metres, on 44.55° south.
Vintage: The 2022 growing season and the subsequent harvest was defined by adequate and timely rain and a warm dry ripening period. This combination of nature’s irrigation from October through December left the vines quite happy with prolonged flowering and good fruit set. The superb ripening weather that followed from January through the end of April contributed to high quality fruit.
Winemaking: Hand-picked in ripe condition between the 25 - 31st March 2022. 5% whole bunch, cold soaked for 3 - 5 days before wild fermentation took place over a period of 21-24 days. This was then pressed into barrel (10% new, 20% one to two years old and 70% three years old) where it was aged for 10 months. Bottled in February 2023.
The Label: The story unfolds in the heart of Central Otago with the 1862 discovery of the Bendigo goldfields, considered one of the richest of its time. Today, the striking remnants of this era enrich the region's landscape and are the inspiration for Loop Rd.
