Framingham Classic Riesling 2022
Reviews
Cameron Douglas MS: 93/100 (excellent). As the name of this wine suggests there is an abundance of classic fruit and floral aromas including fresh green apple and white blossoms, lime and rose, grapefruit and pineapple. Crisp, lush, salivating, refreshing and dry. Flavours reflect the bouquet with a touch of orange peel and sherbet. Well made with a dry finish, a wine best enjoyed as an aperitif or with fresh seafood and sashimi. Drink well from today through 2029.
Bob Campbell, MW (The Real Review): 93/100 & Buy of the Week & Top Rank. Framingham is perhaps the country’s most distinguished riesling producer. Unfortunately riesling is something of a hard sell in New Zealand, which explains why it is our best-value grape variety. This is a medium-dry riesling with lime zest, oyster shell and white wildflower flavours supported by vibrant acidity that reacts with a suggestion of sweetness to give a deliciously vibrant character. Good purity and power. Ageing: now to 2030.
James Suckling (JamesSuckling.com): 91/100. Off-dry, crisp riesling with sliced green apples, white flowers, wet stones and lemons on the nose. Hints of honey. Medium-bodied, fresh and well-balanced, with a clean and zesty finish.
VINOUS - Rebecca Gibb MW: 91/100. The 2022 Riesling Classic takes some time to get to know. Initially, it welcomes you innocently with its lively yet cuddly embrace, the gentle sprinkling of residual sugar softens Riesling's hard edges. However, dig deeper and there's a lot of smart lavering happening here. There's floral, red grapefruit, mandarin and celery aromas with an interesting savory, leesy edge acting as counterpoint. The phenolics are also well handled, giving a reassuring sense of structure and holding this wine on the finish alongside the natural line of acidity.
Tasting Note
Aromatics are reminiscent of mandarin pith, green apple and dried stone fruits. Vibrant, intense, focused palate with orange, and stone fruit flavours held together by good line of juicy acidity and elegant texture.
