Syrah
New Zealand Syrah wine has a distinctive style. The meeting of bright New World fruit with Old World savouriness; ripeness with freshness, makes it as characterful and distinctive as New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Bright, spicy flavours and elegant texture, akin to elegant Northern Rhône style rather than the more overt Australian Shiraz. Crammed with plum and savoury black pepper flavours and sometimes hints of violets.
Many consider Syrah to be a New Zealand red wine star of the future. Try yourself and enjoy.

Two main Syrah regions in New Zealand
The two regions Hawke's Bay and Auckland's Waiheke Island are the biggest producers of New Zealand Syrah (90%). They are considered the Syrah hot spots of New Zealand.
Hawke’s Bay Syrah (accounting for 70% of the NZ Syrah production) are known for their complexity, elegant firm tannins and aromatic and spicy flavours: berryfruit, plums, violet and pepper.
The other contender for the NZ Syrah crown - Waiheke Island - produces wines with a substantial body and richness, and bramble and peppery characters.

Food match: Pairing Syrah with Culinary Delights
Syrah's versatility makes it an excellent companion for a wide range of dishes. Whether you're indulging in a juicy steak, savoring a hearty pasta, or relishing a gourmet cheese platter, Syrah wine complements a myriad of culinary delights. Very few wines can stand up to the powerful flavours of Peking Duck like a fruit-pure, beautifully scented New Zealand Syrah.
New Zealand Syrah is brilliant with barbecued meats and beef served with a full flavoured sauce, or with tomato-based dishes such as pizza or bolognese.
